The concept for the TRANSMISSION Series paintings started in 2022. This piece begins the dialog by introducing a communication device. This was also the beginning exploration for the journey of “play” and would become the catalyst piece for the body of work and exhibition I call Monuments of Play. I think of the walkie talkie as receiving transmissions from my 6 year self. The context of those transmissions are basically "hey if we can make anything we want lets bring some of the stuff that lights us up!" That painting contains a cryptic message written down the side of the painting that relates to these transmissions and the ability of the lightning bolt to glow-in-the-dark. The cypher for decoding the message is contained on the body of the walkie-talkie in the form of Morse Code.
